Cowgirls rally with big fourth quarter to beat Chadron State, 76-71

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball used a 12-0 run late in the fourth quarter to upend Chadron State 76-71 on Friday night at Wilson Complex.

The Cowgirls (6-17 overall, 3-14 RMAC) outscored the Eagles (7-15, 6-10) 31-23 in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.

NMHU trailed 63-58 with 4:28 remaining in the contest before embarking on its big run - ignited by a Aja Scott 3-pointer at the 4:10 mark. The Cowgirls took the lead for what turned out to be for good on another Scott 3-pointer with 3:12 remaining and capped the run with a Shania Johnson jumper with 1:17 left to take a 70-63 advantage.

The Eagles wouldn't get closer than five points the rest of the game.

The Cowgirls shot 80 percent (12-for-15) from the field in the fourth quarter - including going 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

Scott paced NMHU with 19 points and eight rebounds. Awreona Ransom had 14 points and rive rebounds while Maiah Rivas had 13 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

NMHU returns to action 5 p.m. Saturday with a home contest against Black Hills State.
