Cowgirls On The Road For A Pair Of Games This Weekend

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team isĀ on the road for a pair of RMAC contests this weekend starting Friday evening at Fort Lewis. Saturday the Cowgirls are in Alamosa to face Adams State. Both contests are scheduled for 5:00 pm starts.

Fort Lewis is 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference games this season. The Skyhawks won their conference opener at Western Colorado before dropping a game at home to Adams State this past Tuesday. Senior Kelsey Sorenson leads the Skyhawks in scoring at 15.7 points per game. Fort Lewis is scoring 65.3 points per game while allowing 57.8 points through eight games. In the only meeting between the two teams last season, the Cowgirls defeated Fort Lewis 78-56 in Las Vegas.

Entering this weekend's action, Adams State is 7-3 overall and 2-0 in RMAC play. The Grizzlies earned road wins at Western Colorado and Fort Lewis to start the conference season. Adams State scores 64.0 points per game while allowing 64.5 per contest. Junior Kayla Harris leads a balanced Adams State scoring attack at 9.5 points per game. The Grizzlies swept New Mexico Highlands last season winning 74-63 in Las Vegas and 75-68 in Alamosa. Adams State hosts CSU-Pueblo on Friday before welcoming the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls are 3-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the RMAC so far in 2023-24 after sweeping the opening weekend of conference play a week ago. On Friday the Cowgirls edged Colorado Christian 74-73 behind a 23 point outburst from junior Maiah Rivas. Then, on Saturday, NMHU raced past Chadron State 60-47 as Juliana Aragon poured in 23 points in the win.

Looking ahead, the Cowgirls have a pair of home games next weekend as they host Black Hills State on Friday and South Dakota Mines on Saturday. Both games start at 5:00 pm in the Wilson Complex.
