The New Mexico Highlands University soccer team is in Portales to begin the 2023 season Wednesday evening against Eastern New Mexico University. Match-time at Greyhound Stadium is set for 6:00 pm (MT).
Bianca Contreras-Edwards is in her third season as Head Coach of the Cowgirls. She is assisted by
Alexandra Rodriguez.
Wednesday's match marks the eighth all-time meeting between New Mexico Highlands and Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds hold a 4-3 lead in the previous seven meetings including a 2-0 win in Las Vegas on September 4th, 2022. The last win for NMHU in the series was a 4-0 decision in 2014.
New Mexico Highlands University earned 25 points to finish just behind Black Hills State Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Poll conducted by the 13 conference coaches. The Cowgirls were 1-15-0 overall in 2022 and 1-11-0 in RMAC play.
This year's roster features three seniors, six juniors, nine sophomores, and 6 freshmen. The roster also boasts eight players from New Mexico high schools.
The Cowgirls will next be in action this coming Saturday afternoon when they play at Lubbock Christian University in a 1:00 pm match.
The 2023 home opener for NMHU is scheduled for September 22nd when the Colorado Mesa Mavericks travel to Las Vegas for a 3:00 pm tilt.
