Cowgirls Open 2024 On The Road

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team kicks off the new year in Salt Lake City on Friday evening playing at Westminster. On Saturday, the Cowgirls head to Grand Junction to play Colorado Mesa. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.

Westminster enters play on Friday at 2-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. The Griffins are led by sophomore Teuila Nawahine who is averaging 12.1 points per game and junior Maunayia Harrigfeld with 9.1 rebounds per outing. Westminster swept the season series a year ago winning 55-51 in Las Vegas and 69-62 in Salt Lake City.

Colorado Mesa enters play this weekend with an overall record of 9-3 and 3-2 in the RMAC. Sophomore Olivia Reed and freshman Mason Rowland lead the mavericks in scoring at 17.3 and 14.6 points per game respectively. Saturday's game in Grand Junction marks the 66th all time meeting between the two teams with the MAvericks holding a 47-18 edge in the series history. Colorado Mesa hosts CSU-Pueblo on Friday evening.

New Mexico Highlands enters the weekend at 3-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action. Juliana Aragon leads the Cowgirls in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Aragon also leads in assists at 3.8 per outing which is fifth best in the RMAC. Delani Harris is averaging 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Aja Scott leads NMHU with 6.6 rebounds per outing.

The Cowgirls return to Las Vegas next weekend to host MSU-Denver and Colorado Mines.
