Cowgirls Host Adams State On Saturday

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls welcome the Adams State Grizzlies to historic Las Vegas for the final game before the holiday break. NMHU is 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC after defeating Fort Lewis 64-52 on Tuesday evening in Durango.

THE FEARING FILE: Lindsey Fearing is in her first year leading the Cowgirls having been named Head Coach on May 3rd, 2024. The Black Hills State graduate picked up her first career win on November 9th when NMHU beat Western New Mexico 80-60.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Junior Juliana Aragon leads the way for NMHU through six games as she is fifth in the RMAC in scoring (16.6 per game) and fourth in assists (4.4 per game) and ninth in steals (2.0/game). Aragon is also seventh in the conference with a field goal percentage of 45.5% and second in free throw percentage at 85.4%.

Freshman Kapiolani Anitielu is 10th in the conference in scoring at 13.8 per game and fourth with 1.2 blocked shots per game.

As a team, the Cowgirls are third in the RMAC in scoring at 69.4 per game and lead the conference with a 42.7% field goal percentage.

SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES: Adams State enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 7-5 and conference record of 2-1. The Grizzlies beat Fort Lewis last Thursday night in Alamosa 79-60. Junior Kiiyani Anitielu is the team's leading scorer at 14.6 points per game and Taejhuan Hill is the top rebounder grabbing 8.1 per outing. Mario Caetano is in his fourth season at Adams State and he has a career record of 65-38. The Grizzlies won both games against NMHU last season winning 91-60 in Alamosa in December and 70-56 in historic Las Vegas in early February. The two teams meet again this season on February 6th in Alamosa.

SISTERS: Saturday's match-up features two of the top scorers in the RMAC, who happen to be sisters, in Kiiyani Anitielu of Adams State and Kapiolani Anitielu of NMHU. The products of Farmington High School are currently eighth and tenth in the conference in scoring. Kamalani Anitielu, also on the NMHU roster, is redshirting this season.

UP NEXT: After this Saturday's game with Adams State, the Cowgirls will break for the holidays. They return to action on January 9th in Grand Junction against Colorado Mesa. The next home game is January 16th when Black Hills State is in town for a 5:00 pm contest.
