Western Colorado Edges Cowgirls On Saturday In Gunnison

Gunnison, Colorado - In a back and forth game that featured 10 lead changes, the Cowgirls were edged by Western Colorado 52-49 on Saturday afternoon. NMHU is now 5-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Cowgirls led late at 49-48 after Eva Ongoongotau converted a layup with 1:02 remaining in the fourth quarter. Western Colorado converted four free throws in the final 27 seconds of the game to narrowly escape with the win in the only meeting of the season between the two teams.

Junior Juliana Aragon led the Cowgirls with 16 points, three assists, and a pair of steals. Senior Eva Ongoongotau added 13 points and five rebounds.

Aragon as been in double-figures in 10 of the Cowgirls 12 games this season.  

As a team, the Cowgirls went 37.7% from the floor and 77.8% from the free throw line.

The Mountaineers held a 40–21 edge in rebounding.

The Cowgirls welcome Black Hills State to historic Las Vegas this coming Thursday evening for a 5:00 pm game.
