Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls' soccer team is back in action this weekend as they face the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Thursday (5 PM). Followed by a match on Sunday in Lakewood against Colorado Christian.
Cowgirls:
The Cowgirls are still on the hunt for their first conference win.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Cowgirls dropped a pair of games last weekend at home, first against a ranked Colorado Mesa team, and then against a strong defensive team in Westminster last Sunday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
On Thursday, the Cowgirls will take on the 14th-ranked Mountain Lions, who currently sit at 10-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the RMAC and third in the RMAC standings. This is the UCCS team that sits atop the RMAC in scoring and goals. J.B. Belzer is in his fifth season as the head coach in Colorado Springs and captured his first RMAC title at UCCS in 2021. Before being the head coach in Colorado Springs, Belzer spent time at Regis, where he had a winning record of 313-142-36.
Sunday, the Cowgirls will head north to Lakewood to face Colorado Christian. Last season, when these two programs squared off, the Cougars overcame the Cowgirls. The Cougars currently sit at 0-3-5 in RMAC play and 1-6-6 overall. The two teams will face off in a hunt for both teams' first conference wins. Caleb Cole has been with the Cougars since 2020, but became the head coach in February of 2024.
Coach Evans said this about facing a ranked opponent in the RMAC: "That's the thing about the RMAC, we have a bunch of teams in our conference that are ranked, so it's nothing new. We always hope that our players come in with nothing to lose and play their hearts out. So in the big picture, playing ranked teams always adds an extra level to the players."
