Las Vegas, New Mexico - Nationally ranked Colorado State - Pueblo was too much for the Cowboys as they left Las Vegas with a 59-13 win over New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. The Cowboys are now 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the RMAC while the Thunderwolves, ranked 12th in this week's AFCA Division II Top 25, improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Ten first quarter points and three second quarter touchdowns propelled CSU-Pueblo to a 31-0 lead at the half on Saturday.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Cowboys got on the scoreboard courtesy of a touchdown run by Tavita Valeti that capped of an18 play drive that chewed up 11:34 on the clock.
The final score of the day for the Cowboys came courtesy of a 70 yard touchdown strike from
Ike Udengwu to
Mike Jones with 1:45 remaining in the game.
Freshman quarterback
Collin Stucki carried the ball 25 times for 58 yards and he had 75 passing yards on eight attempts.
Mike Jones was the Cowboys leading receiver with five catches for 105 yards and a score.
CSU Pueblo out gained NMHU 451 to 309.
The Cowboys were flagged for 10 penalties for 81 yards while the Thunderwolves had 11 penalties for 115 yards.
New Mexico Highlands is on the road next Saturday traveling to Chadron State for a 1:00 pm game.
