Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands will play one game on the road this weekend before getting their first game of conference play at home.
COACH FEARING:
Coach Fearing enters her second year as the head coach of the Cowgirls. Last season, Coach reached the RMAC Tournament with a 13-13 record before falling to Colorado Mesa in the first round on the road. It was the first time in 20 years that a Cowgirls basketball team had reached the postseason.
RMAC COACHES POLL:Â
New Mexico Highlands women's basketball was picked 8th in the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released last month. The Cowgirls were 13-14 overall and 10-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last season.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Cowgirls played their first two games in conference on the road. First against Regis University on Thursday, followed by a trip to Golden against Colorado School of Mines. The Cowgirls got their first conference win against Regis. Then, against Colorado School of Mines, a late fourth-quarter surge ultimately would lead to an Orediggers victory.Â
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The Cowgirls will open the week up on Tuesday (5:30) at Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks enter the matchup at 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play following a win against the Rangers of Regis. Lauren Zuniga is in her second season at the helm of the Skyhawks in 2025-26.
The Cowgirls' second game will be at home at the John A. Wilson Complex on Thursday at 5:00 against the Grizzlies of Adams State. In his fourth season as head coach, Mario Caetano and Adams State are off to a 7-3 start following their win over MSU-Denver. They sit at 2-0 in conference play.
Â
"I want to see our team grow in maturity and toughness this week. Every team faces adversity, and when it hits, what kind of team are we going to be. It's a tough schedule to start the conference, in terms of being on the road, but it's so good for us. We don't need to be playing our best basketball in December, but we have to progress in that direction. " Coach Fearing said what she wants to see from her team entering the second week of conference play.
ON THE AIR: The matchups will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
UP NEXT: The Cowgirls will then head to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for an exhibition match against the Falcons of Air Force.
