Cowgirls At Adams State Thursday; Host Fort Lewis Saturday

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls play their fifth consecutive game away from home on Thursday night when they travel to Alamosa for a 5:30 pm game with Adams State. On Saturday they welcome Fort Lewis to historic Las Vegas for their first home game since January 18th. Tip-off is at 12:00 pm. NMHU is 9-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

THE FEARLING FILE: Lindsey Fearing is in her first year leading the Cowgirls having been named Head Coach on May 3rd, 2024. The Black Hills State graduate picked up her first career win on November 9th when NMHU beat Western New Mexico 80-60. She recorded her first RMAC win on December 7th as the Cowgirls topped Colorado School of Mines 74-73 in overtime.

ARAGON MILESTONE: Juliana Aragon reached the 1,000 point mark for her career when she converted a free-throw at the 6:34 mark of the fourth quarter of the Cowgirls' win last Thursday at MSU-Denver. The junior from Bernalillo led the Cowgirls in scoring her freshman and sophomore seasons and she currently leads this year's team at 16.5 points per game.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Junior Juliana Aragon is seventh in the RMAC in scoring at 16.4 points per game, third in assists with 4.3 per game, and tied for sixth with 2.1 steals per game. She is seventh in the conference in field goal percentage at 42.9% and second in free throw percentage at 84.3%. Aragon's Assist/Turnover ratio of 1.3 is tied for fifth best in the RMAC.

Freshman Kapiolani Anitielu is eighth in the conference in scoring at 16.3 points per game and eighth in three pointers made per game at 1.8. She is also fifth in blocked shots (1.1 per game) and ninth in steals (2.0 per game).

As a team, the Cowgirls are third in the RMAC in scoring at 70.1 points per game and second in the conference with a 42.6% field goal percentage.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Adams State is 14-8 overall and 9-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The leading scorer for the Grizzlies is Kiiyani Anitielu at 15.0 points per game. The leading Grizzly rebounder is Taejhuan Hill at 9.4 per game. Mario Caetano is in his fourth season as the head coach at Adams State where he has a career record of 72-41. Adams State handed NMHU a 72-64 setback on December 14th in Las Vegas.

Fort Lewis is 6-15 overall and 3-10 in conference play. The Skyhawks are led in scoring and rebounding by senior Darla Hernandez who is averaging 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per outing. Lauren Davis is in her first season as head coach at Fort Lewis. NMHU beat Fort Lewis 64-52 on December 10th in Durango.
