Cowboys Come In Sixth in RMAC Coaches Poll

Colorado Springs, Colorado - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released its 2026 Football Preseason Coaches' Poll and Preseason All-RMAC Team on Wednesday.

New Mexico Highlands was selected to finish sixth in the conference after posting a 6-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in RMAC play during the 2025 season. The Cowboys also finished sixth in the final conference standings a year ago.

The Cowboys placed two student-athletes on the 2026 Preseason All-RMAC Team, with both selections coming on the defensive side of the ball. Senior linebacker Dawson Chapman earned preseason honors alongside reigning RMAC Defensive Freshman of the Year Dontaivious Nelson.

The Cowboys were picked behind Colorado Mesa, Chadron State, Colorado School of Mines, Western Colorado, and CSU Pueblo in the preseason poll.

NMHU opens the 2026 season on August 27th at 6:00 pm when Eastern New Mexico visits historic Las Vegas.
