Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands men's and women's cross country teams return home Friday afternoon to host the 34th edition of the HU XC Jam at the Gene Torres Golf Course.
The meet begins with the men's race at 3:00 pm followed immediately by the women's race.
Friday marks the third competition of the season for the Cowboys and Cowgirls and their only home meet of the 2026 campaign.
New Mexico Highlands enters the meet following a strong showing last Friday at the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock. The Cowboys finished sixth in a 15-team field that included several nationally ranked programs. James Kurui led New Mexico Highlands with a 14th-place finish, while Weldon Chebon followed in 17th. Xavier Martinez, Lawrence Ragland and Josh Mastrantoni completed the Cowboys' scoring five.
The Cowgirls finished 11th in the women's race in Lubbock, led by Joan Kuyo and Maria Roybal, who placed 31st and 34th, respectively. Monica Kalua was the third New Mexico Highlands runner across the line, while Harlee Jaramillo improved her time on the Lubbock course by more than a minute and a half from last season.
The HU XC Jam has a long history in Las Vegas, with Gene Torres Golf Course serving as a familiar home course for generations of New Mexico Highlands runners. The course has also hosted championship competition, including the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.
Following Friday's home meet, New Mexico Highlands will have two weeks away from competition before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas, for the Pre-Nationals Tune-Up on Sunday, October 11th.
