Odessa, Texas - The New Mexico Highlands women's soccer team wrapped up its weekend road trip on Saturday, September 5th, falling 2-0 to UT Permian Basin at the UTPB Soccer Field.

With the loss, New Mexico Highlands moves to 0-3-1 on the season, while UT Permian Basin improves to 3-0-0.

The Cowgirls created several opportunities during the opening half before a pair of late first-half goals gave the Falcons the advantage.

New Mexico Highlands generated the first shot of the match when Anabella Escobar had an attempt blocked in the fourth minute. Ninon Rigal followed with another blocked shot just over two minutes later.

The Cowgirls came within inches of taking the lead in the 20th minute when Tammia Thorpe's shot struck the crossbar. Mia Roybal followed with a shot on goal less than 30 seconds later, and Maya Miljatovich forced another save in the 22nd minute.

UT Permian Basin broke through in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. They added a second goal with 1:42 remaining in the opening half.

New Mexico Highlands kept the Falcons off the scoreboard throughout the second half behind a solid defensive effort and the play of goalkeeper Haylee Driscoll, who took over in goal at halftime and made three saves over the final 45 minutes.

The Cowgirls applied pressure early in the second half, earning three consecutive corner kicks in a span of less than a minute. Taylor Delgado produced New Mexico Highlands' lone shot of the second half in the 65th minute.

UT Permian Basin finished the match with a 16-7 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. New Mexico Highlands held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Peyton Greener made three saves in the opening half for New Mexico Highlands, while Driscoll stopped all three shots on goal she faced after halftime. Roybal and Miljatovich accounted for the Cowgirls' two shots on goal.

New Mexico Highlands returns home on Saturday, September 12, when the Cowgirls host Northwestern Oklahoma State at Sanchez Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 am.
