New Mexico Highlands University Athletics

Clayton Johnson

New Mexico Highlands head football coach Eric Young announced on July 15, 2014, the addition of Clayton Johnson as the new offensive line coach for the 2014 season.

Johnson spent the last two seasons as a Graduate Assistant Offensive Coach at NCAA Division I FBS Fresno State.

With Johnson's help in 2013, the Bulldogs were able to have the best offensive output in school history as Fresno State finished the season 11-2 and the Mountain West Conference Champions. The 'Dogs set 19 school records, including in passing yards, total offense and points scored.

The offensive line for Fresno State had a great season as well. They allowed only 11 sacks in 13 games, a mark which was sixth in the country – an impressive ranking considering they threw the ball 675 times and at least 246 more pass attempts than any of the top-5 teams in the nation.

Prior to his time with the Bulldogs, Johnson was the Run-Game coordinator, Offensive Line and Strength and Conditioning Coach at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, for the 2011 season. Prior to his stint with the Vikings, he was the Offensive Line Coach at Gavilian College in Gilroy, California.

As a player, Johnson was an offensive lineman at Gavilian and was named to the 2006 NorCal All-Combine team. He then played for Nevada for both the 2007 and 2008 seasons. In 2008 for the Western Athletic Conference, he was an Academic All-Conference selection.

Johnson Graduated with Distinction from Nevada in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
