LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that football seniorTyler Slavin has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 22. Slavin also received recognition from the Beyond Sports Network, which named him one of the top performers in week three of the football season.
 
"Tyler had an absolute monster game for us," head coach Eric Young explained. "Without his major contributions, Lance does not come close to breaking the records he did."
 
In Saturday' 59-38 win over Western New Mexico, Slavin tallied 17 catches for 225 yards and four touchdowns. With the Cowboys holding a 28-17 lead at the beginning of the second half, senior Lance Orender hit Slavin for a 51-yard touchdown reception – the longest Highlands play of the day. After that touchdown, Highlands never led the Mustangs by less than 14 the rest of the game.
 
His 17 catches were the most by an RMAC receiver in five seasons.
 
Slavin leads the nation in both receptions (34) and receptions per game (11.3). He also leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in touchdown receptions (six) and is second in reception yards per game (126).
 
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
