LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that wrestling redshirt freshman Reis Humphrey has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (March 2).

Humphrey was voted First Team All-Conference for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last week. He then went out and qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, finishing second in the 149-pound weight class at the NCAA Western Regional in Pueblo, Colorado, this past weekend.

In the championship semifinals against top seeded Tyler Mies of Newman with a guaranteed trip to St. Louis on the line on Friday (Feb. 27), Humphrey dictated the tempo early with a takedown and three back points to quickly take a 5-0 lead. He put the match away with a takedown and two back points in the second to claim the 13-7 win.

After winning his first match 9-5 against Devon Zavala of Western State on Friday, Reis survived a 9-8 decision against Skyler Lykins of Colorado School of Mines before knocking of Mies in the semis.

In the championship match at 149 Saturday (Feb. 28), Humphrey battled Destin McCauley of Nebraska-Kearney. McCauley had a takedown in the first and third periods to claim a 5-3 win.

The Cowboys finished eighth in the regional championship, two points behind fellow RMAC representative Cal Baptist. Nebraska-Kearney took the team championship.

New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
