LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that softball senior Jessica Brink has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (March 23).
Brink helped the softball team win a crucial series against CSU-Pueblo this past weekend (March 20-22). In game one, she recorded the complete-game win to improve to 4-7 on the season – 4-1 in her last five starts. In game two, she entered the circle in the top of the seventh with the bases full of Thunderwolves and a Highlands 2-0 lead. Brink induced a groundout and got a strikeout to preserve the shutout for her first save of the year.
With Highlands taking 3-of-4 games against CSU-Pueblo, the Cowgirls improve their season record to 9-17 and 4-11 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
