LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that baseball fifth-year senior Omar Garcia has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (March 30).
 
Garcia went 10-for-15 (.667) with nine RBI’s, eight runs scored, five doubles and even briefly took over the team lead in home runs as he helped the Cowboys sweep Colorado School of Mines this past weekend (March 27-29). He had at least one run scored, an RBI and hit in every game.
 
With the Cowboys trailing 4-0 in game two against the Orediggers, Garcia blasted his then team-leading fifth home run of the season to cut the deficit in half. He finished the game with a home run, double, two runs scored and four RBI’s as the Cowboys rallied for an extra inning, 7-6 win.  He had hits in all four at-bats in the third game of the series with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI’s.
 
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
