Las Vegas, N.M.- The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that freshman defensive back Isaac Figueroa from Las Cruces, N.M. has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week
Figueroa had a great game this weekend and helped your Cowboys in the come back game against Black Hill State University. In the third quarter, your Cowboys were down 19-14 with only 1:19 left, it was 3rd and 8 on Black Hill State 35 yard line, when Figueroa got himself his first college career interception that he returned for 27 yards. After that your Cowboys go into the fourth with the ball and within 45 seconds Davonte Lynch rushed for a touchdown, which gave your Cowboys their first lead (20-19) in the game. Figueroa ended the game with seven solo tackles, one assisted tackle,one pass break up and an interception.
In its second year, the Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2015-2016 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
