COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Announced Monday (Oct. 20) by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference offices, senior kicker Zach Tapia has been named the RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
 
Besides the conference honor for Tapia, the Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that Tapia has also been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 20.
 
Tapia had a career game with four made field goals in as many tries, including the game-winning 46 yard kick as time expired, as New Mexico Highlands beat Western State, 46-43. He also added four extra points to finish the game with 16 points.
 
For the season, Tapia has 27 extra points and is 6-7 on field goal attempts for 45 points.
 
This is the second time in his career Tapia has been named RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week as he won the award during the 2012 season.
 
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
 
The Cowboys football team returns to action Saturday (Oct. 25) at Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado. Kickoff is slated for noon.
