Karin Gadberry is beginning her fourth season as head softball coach at New Mexico Highlands, joining the athletic coaching and administrative staffs in the summer of 2013. During the 2015 fall academic semester Karin served as the Co-Interim Athletic Director overseeing six sports, strength and conditioning and the Sports Information Director. In her second season in Las Vegas, the Cowgirls finished the season making the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in a decade. Not only have the Cowgirls performed on the field, but in the classroom. Karin has developed 16 NFCA Scholar Athletes, 2 RMAC Academic All-Conference, 2015 RMAC Summit Award winner, 2014 Cowgirl Way recipient, and numerous RMAC Softball Honor Roll softball players.
She joined New Mexico Highlands University from West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery, West Virginia, where she was the head coach of the Golden Bears for the three seasons (2011-2013). During her time at WVU Tech, she led the Golden Bears to a school record 29 wins in 2011. Gadberry also helped to improve the team’s grade point average every year, following her high standards of dedication and leadership on the field and in the classroom. She is the all-time leader in wins as a head coach for the Golden Bear softball program with 62 victories in three years. Her 2013 team made the school’s first ever appearance in the USCAA College World Series and finished in fifth place.
Gadberry became an assistant coach at Southeastern after completing her eligibility. She began as the strength and conditioning coach for the Lions’ women athletes while coaching with the softball program. During her five years as an assistant at Southeastern, she was the recruiting coordinator while also coaching the hitters and in the 2008 season the team hit a school record 43 home runs propelling the Lions back to the Southland Conference tournament. Her role as a strength and conditioning coach helped her form an understanding of the dedication and discipline that is required of student-athletes to excel on and off the field. Gadberry sees this as a pillar of her softball programs and instills these tools in her student-athletes, as exemplified by having coached numerous All-Conference players including the Southland Conference 2010 Female Athlete of the Year. She ensures that her players perform to high standards athletically, academically and that they participate in forming a bond with the community.
