Cowgirls Continue to Struggle

The NMHU Cowgirl volleyball team had two games at home this weekend and came out of the weekend 0-2. The Cowgirls first played host to the UCCS Mountain Lions on 10/16. The Cowgirls fell to the Mountain Lions by a final score of 3-0. The Cowgirls then played host to the Orediggers from the Colorado School of Mines on 10/18. The Cowgirls would eventually fall to the Orediggers 3-0.

In their first game of their weekend home stand, the Cowgirls fell to the UCCS Mountain Lions in 3 close games with scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-19.

Leading the Cowgirls was Vanessa Leal with 10 kills. Kelsey Spence again led the Cowgirls with 15 digs on the night. The Cowgirls had a total of 36 kills whereas the Mountain Lions only had 33 kills. The Mountain Lions only committed 8 errors, while the Cowgirls had 29 errors on the night.

The Cowgirls then played host to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on 10/18. The Cowgirls would eventually lose to the Orediggers in three straight with scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-20.
The Cowgirls made improvements from the previous game as their hitting percentage was .129 but the Cowgirls just couldn't beat the Orediggers .317 hitting percentage.

Leading the Cowgirls were Krista Kallish and Dominique Benton with 7 kills each. The Cowgirls committed 18 errors in comparison to the 11 errors made by the Orediggers. The Cowgirls did out block the Orediggers as the Cowgirls had 3 total team blocks and the Orediggers had only one.

The Cowgirls are now 0-13 in RMAC play. They will play host to the Ft. Lewis College Skyhawks on 10/23 followed by another home game on 10/24 against the Western State College Mountaineers. The Cowgirls will be participating in Kickin' & Diggin' for the Cure with Pink night on 10/24. Come join your Cowgirls as they promote Breast Cancer Awareness month.
