Cowgirls Drop Two in Weekend Stand

The NMHU Cowgirls finished the weekend 0-2 as they fell to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks by a final of 3-1 on 10/23 and to the Western State Mountaineers by a final of 3-0 on 10/24. The Cowgirls are now 1-23 on the season and 0-15 in RMAC play.

The Cowgirls played host to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on 10/23 at the John A. Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls took the Skyhawks to four games but lost with scores of 25-22, 25-17, and a fourth game score of 25-14. The Cowgirls won the fourth game with a score of 25-20. This was the first set that the Cowgirls have won since the last time they met up with Skyhawks.

Katie Spence set a career and season high 24 digs for the Cowgirls during the night. Vanessa Leal led the team with kills earning 11 for the night. The Cowgirls hitting percentage was .194 while the Skyhawks had a .273 hitting percentage.

The Cowgirls then played host to the Western State College Mountaineers to end the Kickin' & Diggin' for the Cure weekend. The Cowgirls sold 200 raffle tickets to help raise over $900 for Breast Cancer Awareness in New Mexico.

The Cowgirls tried to make a last ditch effort but their comeback wasn't enough to overcome the Mountaineers. The Cowgirls lost in 3 games with scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.
Leading the Cowgirls was Dominique Benton with 9 kills and 2 solo blocks, the only blocks for the night.
The Cowgirls will now travel to Silver City, NM on 10/27 to take on the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University. If you can't make the drive to Silver City, you can catch your Cowgirls live on the B2 Networks.
