Two last second shot by the Buffalos of West Texas A&M carried them over the Cowboys in an overtime nail biter on 11/17. The Cowboys fell by a final score of 89-87in their 2009 season opener in the John A. Wilson Complex in front of a crowd of 4,000 screaming Cowboy fans. The Cowboys are now 0-1 on the season and will have a short rest before the head to Durango Colorado to participate in the Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Classic on 11/20 and 11/21. The Cowboys will take on Grand Canyon University on 11/20 and Calumet College on 11/21.
The Cowboys started out sluggish in the first half but regained ground on the Buffalos to go into halftime leading 36-34. The Cowboys would play neck and neck with the Buffalos for the second half but a last second three pointer by a Buffalo player took tied the game 81-81 to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period the Buffalos again would hit a last second shot to clinch the win.
The Cowboys were led by Roman Andrade. Andrade finished the night with 24 points, two steals and six rebounds. Other top performers for the Cowboys include: Mindaugas Markevicius and Chop Tang. Markevicius was second in scoring for the Cowboys with 19 points and added in two rebounds. Tang finished with a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling in 10 rebounds for the Pokes.
The Cowboys will have a short week ahead of them to gather themselves for their next competition. The Cowboys will be playing in the Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Classic on 11/20 and 11/21. The Cowboys will take on Grand Canyon University on 11/20 and Calumet College on 11/21.
