The NMHU Cowboys took to the hardwood against the University of the Southwest on 11/30 and ran away with their fifth straight win of the season. The Cowboys dismantled the Mustangs of USW by a final score of 109-61. The Cowboys are now 5-1 on the season and look to start RMAC play on 12/4 when they start a two game road swing. The Cowboys will take on the Lopers from the University of Nebraska-Kearney on 12/4 and will then take on the Eagles from Chadron State College on12/5.
The Cowboys started out strong in the first half to take a commanding 65-33 lead heading into halftime. The Cowboys would continue to pressure the Mustangs in the second half en route to their 109-61 win. The Cowboys had an impressive team 70% shooting percentage as a team for the game, their highest this season. The Cowboys were also 57% from three-point range for the game.
The Cowboys were led by
Chop Tang with 23 points. Tang also added in eight rebounds, five assists and one steal in his 20 minutes of playing time. Tang was also recently named the RMAC/Baden player of the week for his outstanding play last week for the Cowboys, including his 44 point performance against Angelo State University on 11/28.
Other outstanding performers were:
Roman Andrade,
Kelvin Franklin and
Chris Newsome. Andrade finished with 20 points, four assists and one steal. Franklin added in 17 points, two assists and three steals. Newsome finished the night with 11 points, three assists, one blocked shot and one steal.
Other Cowboys saw some playing time and made it count.
Justin Mayo Montoya,
Nick Richardson and
Tre' Harge all stepped in and played great in the Cowboys win. Montoya finished the night with five points and continued to be a defensive weapon for the Cowboys with three steals and two rebounds. Richardson came in and scored three points and added in two rebounds, three assists and one steal. Harge finished the night with seven points and two rebounds.
The Cowboys will be hitting the road on 12/4 to start RMAC play as they start a two game road swing. The Cowboys will first travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Lopers from the University of Nebraska-Kearney on 12/4 at 8:00pm CST and will then travel to Chadron, Neb. to take on the Eagles from Chadron State College on12/5.
