The NMHU Cowboy Basketball team hosted the #13 Mesa State Mavericks on 1/22 at the John A. Wilson Complex. The Cowboys held off the Mavericks for most of the game, until the last three minutes. The last minute and a half of play was intense as the Cowboys and Mavericks went back and forth with the lead. Eventually, the Cowboys lost with a score of 81-79.
The Mavericks sealed their fate with a last second jumper by their leading scorer Mike Dominguez, who proved to be too much for the Cowboys. He was the leading scorer with 37 points on the night.
Leading the Cowboys were
Chris Dunn and
Roman Andrade. Dunn scored 18 points and six rebounds on the night. Dunn also grabbed a steal for the Cowboys. Andrade also had 18 points on the night for the Cowboys and grabbed four rebounds.
Close behind them was
Rashad Peterson with 16 points and three rebounds.
The Cowboys will still play the Mavericks later in the season and will be able to answer back to the loss.
The Cowboys are now 3-5 in RMAC play but have an opportunity to change that as they host the Western State College Mountaineers 1/23 at 8pm in the John A. Wilson Complex.
