Cowgirls Struggle in RMAC Play

The Cowgirl Volleyball team hosted three RMAC games this past weekend in search for their first RMAC win. They came close but weren't able to pull it out and came out 0-3 in nine sets over the weekend. Throughout the weekend, the Cowgirls wore pink in honor of NMHU's Pink Out- “ This one's for the girls!”

First up for the Cowgirls were the Roadrunners of Metro State College. The Cowgirls fell in three sets with scores of 25-15,25-16 and made a last ditch effort in the last set with a score of 25-22.

Leading the Cowgirls with kills was Darian Mullen with eight kills and a block. Ashley Nugent had five kills and a pair of blocks. The leading Roadrunner had twice as many kills as any Cowgirl.

On the next night the Cowgirls hosted the Regis University Rangers as they honored local breast cancer survivors from the Las Vegas area. The Cowgirls fell in three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-12, and 25-15.

Leading the Cowgirls was Mullen again with 10 kills on the night, behind only one Ranger who had 12 kills on the night. The Cowgirls committed 22 errors to the Rangers' 9 errors.

Ending out the weekend, the Cowgirls hosted the Cougars of Colorado Christian University. The Cowgirls played much better, their best all week, but weren't able to come through with a victory. The Cougars won with scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 26-24.

Nugent led the Cowgirls with 13 kills on the night. Close behind her was Colleen Chauncey with seven kills and a block.

In the third set, the Cowgirls tied it up at 12 and kept the Cougars within reach. The two teams took turns scoring with the game ending at 26 points scored by the Cougars.

Throughout the weekend, the Cowgirls were able to connect with a handful of local breast cancer survivors. The Cowgirls helped to raise $2,000 for the group of local survivors. More importantly, they welcomed these ladies into the Cowgirl family.

The Cowgirls are now 4-17 overall and 0-11 in RMAC play. They will play host to in state rival Western New Mexico on 10/21 before taking to the road.
