Volleyball Weekend Round-Up

The Cowgirl Volleyball team hosted their first weekend RMAC series at the John A Wilson Complex in beautiful Las Vegas, NM. The Cowgirls hosted the Mountaineers of Western State College on 10/8 followed by the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo on 10/9. The Cowgirls weren't able to pick up a win as the fell in three sets to both teams.

The Cowgirls and Mountaineers had the same number of kills at 39 apiece but the Cowgirls committed almost twice as many errors with 22 to the Mountaineers' 10.

Sarah Dirmeyer led the Cowgirls with 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Darian Mullen was close behind with nine kills and a block.

The Cowgirls were down by as many as eight points during the match but their last minute efforts left them three points behind. Scores for the match were 25-22, 25-19, and 25-20.

Next up for the Cowgirls were the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves also proved to be too much for the Cowgirls as they took the Cowgirls in three quick sets. Again, the Cowgirls tried to make last ditch efforts for victory after being down by as many as eight points, in the second set, but were left hanging in the end. The first and third sets were much of a back and forth game for both teams.
Mullen led the Cowgirls with nine kills and a trio of aces. Whitney Taylor had 21 assists on the night against the Thunderwolves.

The Cowgirls are still looking for their first RMAC win as the play three home games within the next week. The Cowgirls will play host to the Metro State College Roadrunners on 10/13. The following night the Cowgirls will be honoring local breast cancer survivors as part of the NMHU's PINK OUT! So come on out and show your support and wear pink, there will be t-shirts thrown out. You don't want to miss this!
