The NMHU Cowboys winning streak came to a stop at six games on 12/11 in Grand Junction, Colo. as the Cowboys fell to the Mavericks of Mesa State College by a final score of 89-82. The Cowboys would lead for most of the game, but would lose their lead late in the second half as the Mavericks would capitalize on 14 fouls called against the Cowboys in the final six minutes of the game. The Cowboys would finish the night with 36 fouls called against them compared to the 23 called against the Mavericks. With the loss, the Cowboys are now 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in RMAC play.
The Cowboys would have four players in double figures for the night as the Cowboys would outshoot their opponents with a 53% shooting percentage compared to the Mavericks 48% shooting percentage.
Thomas Manzano would finish with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and two steals for the night.
Chris Newsome,
Mindaugas Markevicius and
Momcilo Latinovic would all score in double digits for the Cowboys. Newsome would finish the night with 16 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Markevicius have 15 points and one rebound on the night. Latinovic would round out the top four Cowboys with 14 points and two rebounds.
The Cowboys will hit the court again on 12/17 as they play host to the Mountain Lions from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in Las Vegas, N.M. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
