The NMHU Cowboys rattled off their eighth straight win on 2/16 as they edged out the Thunderwolves in a thriller by a final score of 78-76. The Cowboys and the Thunderwolves traded blows throughout the contest as the lead changed 15 times in the RMAC slugfest. The Cowboys are now 17-7 overall and 11-5 in RMAC play. The Cowboys will be on the road for the rest of the 2009-10 season as they will finish the season with three straight road contests. The Cowboys will travel down to Silver City, N.M. to face in-state RMAC rival Western New Mexico University on 2/18.
The Cowboys fought hard throughout as the Thunderwolves would not back down to the Cowboys offensive attack. The Cowboys shot an impressive 45% from the field for the game and the Thunderwolves would better that as they would shoot 48% from the game. Both team fought hard but the game would be won at the charity stripe as the Cowboys would better the Thunderwolves with a 94% shooting percentage from the free throw line and the Thunderwolves would end the night with a 83% from the free throw line.
The Cowboys were led by
Roman Andrade with 21 points. Andrade also added in five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Other outstanding performers include:
Chris Dunn and
Mindaugas Markevicius. Dunn finished the night with 16 points, five rebounds, one assists and a season high five blocked shots. Markevicius finished with 15 points and two rebounds.
The Cowboys will hit the hardwood again on 2/18 as they travel down to Silver City, N.M. to face in-state RMAC rival Western New Mexico University. Tip-off is set for 8:00pm.
