The NMHU Cowboys fell to the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University on 2/18 by a final score of 88-85. The Cowboys and the Mustangs traded the lead several times throughout the game. The Mustangs would win on behalf of a costly Cowboy foul on a last second three-point attempt by the Mustangs that would send WNMU's Tony Riley to the line for three shots which he sank to solidify the win for the Mustangs 88-85. The loss ends an eight game winning streak for the Cowboys. The Cowboys are now 17-8 on the season and 11-6 in RMAC play. The Cowboys will continue the rest of their season on the road as they travel to Gunnison, Colo. to take on the Mountaineers of Western State College on 2/26.
The Cowboys played a tough game throughout, but it would be costly missed shots and missed opportunities that would eventually spell doom for the Cowboys. The Cowboys would overcome an 11 point deficit in the second half and eventually take the lead with five minutes remaining but could not pull away from the Mustangs. The Cowboys would miss eight out of their final 15 shots in the final eight minutes to let the Mustangs back in the game.
Leading scorer for the Cowboys was
Roman Andrade with 27 point as he led all scorers. He would add in three rebounds, six assists, one blocked shot and one steal for the night.
The Cowboys will continue the rest of their season on the road as they travel to Gunnison, Colo. to take on the Mountaineers of Western State College on 2/26.
