The NMHU Cowboy wrestling team lost an RMAC home dual Friday night 33-15 when they hosted conference opponent Adams State. The Cowboys points came from two forfeits in the 141 and 149 lb weight classes and with
Travis Saxon 3-2 victory in the 165 lb weight class. The Cowboys fall to 0-4 in the RMAC and 0-5 in overall competition after the home loss.
The match started at the 125 lb class as Cowboy
Joshua Christopher lost 10-2 to Adam State's Jerry Huff. In the next match at 133 lbs
Donovan Troup lost by a score of 12-5. NMHU's
Christopher Davy won by forfeit at 141 lbs followed by a victory by forfeit for Cowboy
Mariano Montoya at 149 lbs. The Grizzlies Justin Samora would earn a technical fall with 1:17 left in the second period at 157 lbs against
Mark Martinez. NMHU's
Travis Saxon rallied back in the third period from a 1-0 deficit to beat Adam State's Darian Roberts 3-2 at 165 lbs. In the 174 lb weight class, the Cowboy's Brad Morgan lost a close battle against Mark Mabry Jr. who prevailed in the match 5-4.
Andrew Roden was pinned at 2:54 into the 194 lb match by the Grizzlies Dominic DeMarco. Former Cowboy wrestler
Luke McPeek represented his new team Adam's State at 197 lbs. McPeek, currently ranked fourth in NCAA DII at 197 lbs, was able to pin Cowboy
Justin Wilmes 2:40 into the contest. In the final match saw NMHU heavyweight
R.K. Rockhill fall to a pin by the Grizzlies Taylor Stam at 1:42 in the first period.
The team will next travel to Hays, Kan. for a RMAC road dual against Fort Hays State University on 2/3. Starting time for this conference dual will be 7pm.
