The Cowboys wrapped up their 2011 season with a 6-3 loss to the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on 11/12 in Las Vegas, N.M. Both teams would struggle offensively throughout the game as neither team would go over 200 yards of total offense for the day. The Cowboys struck first as
Tony Udley would force a FLC fumble with
Niko Aumua recovering to set up a 26 yard field goal by
Ernesto Guerra to take a 3-0 lead in the second quarter. The game would remain scoreless through halftime as the Cowboys led 3-0. In the second half, both teams continued to struggle offensively. Fort Lewis caught the Cowboys on their heels in the third quarter as Tim Jenkins would hook up with Blaise Cuban for a 36 yard touchdown to put the Skyhawks up 6-3 and it would remain that way as
Devin Howard would block the point after attempt. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter as the Skyhawks would come away with the 6-3 win over the Cowboys in both teams season finale. With the loss, the Cowboys end the 2011 season 4-7 overall and 2-7 in RMAC play.
Defensively, the Cowboys had another impressive showing as they bested last week's performance against Western New Mexico by holding the Skyhawks to a season low -25 yards rushing for the day. The Cowboys would allow 196 yards passing in the game to hold Fort Lewis to 171 total offensive yards. As a whole, the Cowboys hard-nosed defense finished with 18 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, 10 pass break-ups and eight sacks for the day.
Jordan Campbell,
Devin Howard and
Tony Udley led the way for the Cowboys. Campbell finished with 11 tackles and five tackles for a loss of 15 yards. Howard added in 11 tackles, four tackles for loss, one forced fumble, on blocked PAT, three sacks and two quarterback hurries. Udley rounds out the top three with nine tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, one interception and two pass break-ups.
Offensively, the Cowboys struggled as they would only manage two first downs in the game. The Cowboys finished with 105 yards of total offense (52 yards rushing and 53 yards passing) on the day.
Kevon Williams would lead the Cowboy offense in both rushing and receiving as he ended his day with nine carries for 29 yards rushing and three catches for 40 yards.
The Cowboys end their 2011 season with a 4-7 overall record and a 2-7 RMAC record. The Cowboys look forward to the 2012 season as they only lose eight seniors from their 2011 roster. Seniors;
