The NMHU Cowboy Basketball team finished up their 2011 preseason exhibitions on 11/7 with a convincing 119-98 win over the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowboys never trailed in the game and would lead by as much 28 points in their second exhibition victory of the season. The Cowboys had already notched their first win of their preseason with a 91-70 rout of Northern New Mexico College on 11/2 on the road in Espanola, N.M. The Cowboys will hit the court for their first regular season game on the road as they take on Midwestern State University in the CSU-Pueblo Classic on 11/18 in Pueblo, Colo.
NMHU had a great night from the field as four Cowboys posted double digit performances on the night against the Mustangs.
Momcilo Latinovic led all scorers with 39 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Latinovic finished an impressive 7-11 from the three point line and 12-12 from the charity stripe.
Aaryon Williams would finish second for the Cowboy in scoring with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals on the night. A.J. Shepard finished with 11 points, one rebound and two assists.
Billy Austin rounds out the top performers for the Cowboys as he finished with 10 points, three rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Marcus Williams would also have an impressive night as he finished with nine points, a game high six assists, one blocked shot and one steal.
After an impressive preseason, the Cowboys look to once again be a force in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Cowboys were picked sixth overall in the RMAC's preseason poll, but hope to prove the voters wrong when the final standing come out. The Cowboys will open their 2011-12 season on the road as they take on Midwestern State University in Pueblo, Colo. at the CSU-Pueblo Classic on 11/18.
