Box Score The NMHU Cowboys dropped the last game of their Colorado road trip with a 71-62 loss to the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo.
Highlands started strong going on a 22-9 run in the first half. The 'Pokes started strong with
Mike Moody setting the tempo by making both free throws and
Marcus Williams making a dunk.
Derek Freeman checked in with the score at 7-1 and continued the momentum. NMHU was riding their momentum until a Kevin Coates' jumper spurred a 14-2 run for the Thunderwolves, tying the game at 24 apiece. With 60 seconds remaining in the first half,
Marcus Williams hit a trey that would seal the visitor's lead in the first half. Heading into the locker room, Highlands led 28-25.
Both teams started strong in the second half, but Highlands took an early 5-4 run making the game 33-29. Unlucky for the Cowboys, Ty Trahern buried a ball from outside the three-point arc starting a 12-0 ThunderWolves run. NMHU answered back and battled until the game was tied at 51. With 7:39 remaining in the game, Ryan Arel made a jumper that gave the ThunderWolves the lead for good.
Marcus Williams led Highlands with 25 points and three steals.
Lionel Coleman,
Marquis Whitt and
Augustus French paced the Pokes with two blocks apiece. Highlands hit 22-54 from the floor and 10-27 from outside the three-point arc.
