Cowboys Edge Out Mountaineers 77-75

The NMHU Cowboys got back to their winning ways on 2/12 as they edged out the Mountaineers of Western State College with a last second buzzer beater by Mike Moody to seal the 77-75 win for the Cowboys. The Cowboys and the Mountaineers would play a tight game throughout as the Cowboys would only lead by as much as seven points for the night. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 17-6 overall and 13-6 in RMAC play. The Cowboys are now in fourth place in the RMAC standings heading into the final weeks of the season.

The Cowboys finished the night shooting 47% from the field and 42% from three point land. The Cowboys would struggle at the free throw line as they shot 50% for the night. Defensively, the Cowboys set a season high in blocked shots in the win with nine blocks on the night. Derek Freeman led the way for the Cowboys with four blocks on the night.

The top scorers for the Cowboys include: Thomas Manzano and Mindaugas Markevicius. Manzano finished the night leading the Cowboys in scoring with 25 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals. Markevicius would be the only other Cowboys in double figures as he finished with 14 points, one rebound and one assist.

The Cowboys will hit the road for their final regular season games of the 2010-11 season as they travel to Denver, Colo. for a two game road swing as they take on Regis University on 2/18 and Metro State College on 2/19.
