Cowgirls Split On The Road

 The Highlands volleyball team improved to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in RMAC play on 9-24 by beating Western State College in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-12) but fell to CSU-Pueblo in three (25-16, 25-17, 25-19).

Senior Middle Blocker Dominique Benton led the Cowgirls over the weekend with a .301 hitting percentage and added three blocks. 

After receiving a wakeup call from the Thunderwolves, Highlands bounced back the next night and proved that they are an extremely tough team.

The CSU-Pueblo match proved to be a difficult challenge for the Cowgirls as Pueblo came out swinging and consistent. Pueblo had 12 more kills (44-32) and 17 more digs (50-33) than the Cowgirls.

"Our match against was Pueblo was well balance, but tonight was a great test of how well we can bounce back," said head coach Jim Deisler.

Freshman libero Sheila Olaechea notched a career-high 35 digs against Western and 12 against Pueblo.

"Tonights match was a mental challenge, being on the road and It was that kind of night. the girls did a good job of fighting," continued Deisler. "This is just what we needed going into next week's home matches."

The Cowgirls host Eastern New Mexico University on 9-27 at 7:00 p.m.
