Cowboys Fall to UNK 80-66

#5 Aaryon Williams
Box Score The New Mexico Highlands Cowboys fell to .500 with an 80-66 loss to University of Nebraska – Kearney on 1/14. Highlands hit 37.1% from the floor and 58.8% from the line.

Led by Aaryon Williams, who finished with 13 points and two blocks, Highlands started strong going on a 12-4 run to start the game. The Lopers answered back with a 15-2 rebuttal to take the lead for the rest of the game.

At one point, Highlands was down by 20, but a late surge of a 19-4 run brought them back within five points, with a mere 6:39 remaining. Unfortunately for the 'Pokes, it was not enough to contain the Loper offense.

AJ Shepard was a key player for Highlands, with 12 points and four assists, but he eventually fouled out.  Other key players for the team were Mike Moody and Derek Freeman, who finished with seven and six rebounds respectively.

Mike Dentlinger and Chris Deans of UN-Kearney both had 20 points apiece.

The Cowboys will be in action again, on 1/21, as they take on the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University at 8:00 p.m. in Silver City, N.M.
