Cowboys Silence Thunderwolves 89-83

Box Score The NMHU Cowboys got back to their winning ways on 1/27 as they defeated the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo 89-83 in front of a raucous home crowd. The Cowboys would dominate the first half, leading by as much as 11 points over CSU-Pueblo. The Cowboys would ride a late surge in the second half to head into the break with a comfortable 47-38 halftime lead. The second half would prove to be the most exciting half of basketball as the Thunderwolves would mount a comeback tying the game at 81-81 in the final minutes. That would be as close as the Thunderwolves would come to the Cowboys as the Pokes would go on an 8-2 run in the final minute to close out the game for the 89-83 win over CSU-Pueblo. With the win the Cowboys improve to 9-9 on the season and 8-7 in RMAC play putting them in seventh place in the conference standings.

As a team the Cowboys finished the night shooting 50% from the field and 48% from three point land. The Cowboys would struggle form the charity stripe shooting 61% for the night. Defensively, the Cowboys forced 12 CSU-Pueblo turnovers and banged the boards by pulling down35 rebounds on the night. The Cowboys would also tally up seven steals as a team for the game.

Momcilo Latinovic would lead all scorers with 28 points for the night. Latinovic finished 10-17 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. Latinovic would add in two rebounds, two assists and one steal to his night's totals.

Billy Austin finished the night an impressive 6-8 from the field and was one of the Pokes leading rebounders with five rebounds on the night. Austin was second on the team in scoring with 19 points for the game.

Aaron Shepard finished the night with 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in his 22 minutes of play.

Ryan Gonzales rounds out the top performers for the Cowboys with 13 points, three assists and one steal for the night.

The Cowboys will hit the hardwood again on 1/28 as they host the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (7-13; 6-8 RMAC) at 8:00 p.m. in the John A. Wilson Complex.
