Cowgirl Volleyball Weekend Round-Up

The New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls (2-10 in RMAC play and 6-16 overall), on 10/19, had a match-up against the Colorado Christian University Cougars (8-4 in conference play and 18-5 overall) losing in three sets 25-20, 25-16, and 25-15 at the John A. Wilson Complex.

The Cowgirls couldn't seem to find their rhythm being victims of their own errors only being able to manage a -.030 attack percentage for the night and finished with four service errors.

Leading the Cowgirls was junior outside hitter Darian Mullen who had eight kills and three digs. Senior outside hitter Ashley Nugent contributed with four kills and six digs. Nugent also added a pair of solo blocks to her totals for the evening. Quiana Vigil lent to the Cowgirls attack with 17 assists, five digs and two kills.

Saturday 10/20
The Cowgirls (2-10 in RMAC play and 6-17 overall) concluded the weekend with a Saturday night contest against the #12 Nationally Ranked Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines (11-2 in RMAC play and 17-5 overall) losing in three sets 25-15, 25-18, and 26-24 at the John A. Wilson Complex.

NMHU Cowgirls would land up having a .175 attack percentage compared to the Mines' .304 attack percentage. Coming out after the eight minute half time the Cowgirls last match play on Saturday was an extraordinary contest, battling for every ball and trying to establish some offensive attacks having the Orediggers fighting tooth and nail to keep up. Having a 22-20 lead over Mines seemed to be leaning towards the Cowgirls favor. Eventually #12 Mines would take the set with a score of 26-24.

Leading the way for the Cowgirls was junior outside hitter Darian Mullen with .182 attack percentage, thus helping with 11 kills, four digs, and one solo block. Utility freshman, Andrea Nunez followed with eight kills and eight digs.

Freshman setter, Quiana Vigil finished with 26 assists and six digs for the match.

The Cowgirls will hit the floor again on 10/23 as they take on the Thunderwolves of Colorado State University- Pueblo in Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colo. First set is set for 7:00 p.m. The Cowgirls will make another home stand on 10/27 against in-state rival Western New Mexico.
