Cowgirls Dropped by Thunderwolves 3-0

Box Score Pueblo, Colo.- The Cowgirls fell to RMAC West competitor Colorado State University-Pueblo in three sets ( 25-12, 25-15, and 26-24) Tuesday night, 10/23, at Massari Arena.

The Cowgirls (2-12 RMAC and 6-18 overall) were shut down by the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo (4-10 RMAC and 13-12 overall) after only hitting a .087 attack percentage.  Mistakes plagued the Cowgirls' night as they committed 20 hitting errors and only had 29 kills compared to the Thunderwolves 45.

The Thunderwolves comfortably won the first two sets. After the eight minute intermission, the Cowgirls came out inspired looking to turn the night around. NMHU ran out to a 4-1 lead in the third set. The Cowgirls extended their lead to 8-4 going into a CSU-Pueblo timeout. After the break in action, the Thunderwolves were able to even the score to 8-8. The action went back an forth, with neither team leading by more than two points. The Cowgirls faced match point with the Thunderwolves leading 24-22. However, the Cowgirls were able to win the next two points to keep the match alive. Unfortunately, the Thunderwolves overcame the Cowgirls run and captured the next two points to win the third set 26-24 and take the match in three sets.

Leading scorer for the Cowgirls was junior outside hitter Darian Mullen, with nine kills and a .261 attack percentage. Defensively Mullen also had five digs to add to her nights totals.

Also aiding the Cowgirls' efforts was junior utility Jordyn Glorfield. She added eight more kills and five digs for her team.

Freshman setter Quiana Vigil contributed 25 assists and seven digs for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls will hit the floor again on Saturday, 10/27, as they take on in-state rival Western New Mexico University  at the John A. Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Click HERE to watch your Cowgirls in action live on the America one Network.
