Box Score 2 The NMHU Cowgirls battled a long road trip through the back woods of Colorado this weekend, making stops at Denver, Colo. and Colorado Springs, Colo., on 10/5 and 10/6. The Cowgirls faced the #17 Roadrunners of Metro State College of Denver and the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs. In both conference match ups the Cowgirls battled hard but fell to Metro State in three sets and lost in a four set match against the Mountain Lions.
The Cowgirls took on the Metro State College Roadrunners, the #17 team in the nation at the NCAA Division II level. The Cowgirls competed hard but fell in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-16.
Leading the Cowgirls' efforts was Senior middle blocker
Sarah Dirmeyer with 11 kills and three digs. The Cowgirls had 32 kills and 25 digs on the evening as the #17 Roadrunners had 41 kills and 29 digs.
The Cowgirls then took on the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions and looked to change a few things from the night before. The Cowgirls tried to fight off the Mountain Lions but the UCCS won in four sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-12).
Leading the way for the Cowgirls was Junior outside hitter
Darian Mullen with 15 kills and 13 digs. Also chipping in was Junior middle blocker
Mariah White with nine kills and three digs.
The Cowgirls will continue to stay on the road this week for the next match-up against in-state rival Eastern New Mexico University. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
