#15 Ashley Nugent
Box Score The Cowgirl Volleyball team lost their final match of the 2012 season in three sets (25-11, 25-20, and 25-22) against the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University, on 11/10, in Las Vegas, N.M.  The highlight of the evening was the farewell ceremony for NMHU seniors Sarah Dirmeyer and Ashley Nugent.  With the loss the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Bryan Crawford, finish the 2012 season with a 2-17 record in the RMAC and 6-23 in overall play.

The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead in the first set.  They rode the momentum to cruise to a 25-11 victory.

The Cowgirls regrouped and played much better in the second set.  They took the initial lead, but the Mavericks quickly regained control of the set.  CMU extended their lead before the Cowgirls made a comeback to close to within three points, 23-20.  The Mavericks won the next two points to capture the second set 25-20.

The Cowgirls started the third set with determination, again taking the initial lead.  The Mavericks went back up, but the Cowgirls fought back and tied the game up at six apiece.  The teams went back and forth, with CMU holding a slight advantage.

The Cowgirls turned up the intensity and were able to take a two point lead, 19-17, electrifying the home crowd.  But CMU was able to win the next four points to jump back in front.  The teams exchanged points and the Cowgirls were within one point of CMU, 23-22.  The Cowgirls played tough but the Mavericks were able to capture the final two points they needed to win the third and final set of the night, 25-22.

The final game of the season for the Cowgirls was Senior Night and they honored their two departing seniors, Sarah Dirmeyer and Ashley Nugent.

Sarah Dirmeyer played two seasons as a middle blocker for the Cowgirls.  During that time, the Albuquerque, N.M. native amassed 336 kills, 42 service aces, 82 digs, and 30 solo blocks in her 170 career sets for NMHU.  Sarah is a Business Administration major.

Ashley Nugent, from Jackson, Mich., played three seasons for the Cowgirls.  As an outside hitter, Ashley had 388 kills, 13 service aces, 241 digs, and 27 solo blocks in 202 careers sets played for the Cowgirls.  Ashley is an Exercise and Sports Science major at NMHU.

NMHU Athletics would like to thank Sarah and Ashley for their dedication to Cowgirl Volleyball.  Thank you for all the hard work and determination that both of you have exhibited on and off the court.  Everyone in the NMHU Athletic Department wish you both the best in your future endeavors.

The NMHU Volleyball team struggled in the 2012 season.  They finish with a 2-17 record in the RMAC and 6-23 in overall play.  Despite the tough season, the Cowgirls are positioned to succeed in the future.  First-year Head Coach Bryan Crawford will only lose two seniors from the team and he has gained a year of experience in the extremely competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Cowgirls will be back better than ever in the 2013 season.  Stay tuned to the NMHU Athletics webpage for more information about Cowgirl Volleyball during the off-season.
