Box Score The NMHU Cowboys ended their 2011-12 regular season on a winning note by defeating the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University 106-93 on 2/25 in front of a great home crowd in Las Vegas, N.M. The Pokes would finish the night shooting 52% from the field en route to their tenth home win of the season. The Cowboys never trailed their in-state rival throughout the contest. In the first half NMHU would jump on the Mustangs early leading by as much as 20. The Cowboys would carry that 20 point lead into the halftime break leading 50-30. In the second half the Pokes would not take their foot off the gas as they continued to lead, despite some WNMU surges. When the final buzzer sounded, the Cowboys would walk away with a 106-93 win over their in-state rival. With the win, the Cowboys finish the 2011-12 regular season with 12-14 overall record and a 10-12 mark in RMAC play.
As a team, the Pokes finished the night shooting an impressive 58% from beyond the arc and 87% from the free throw line. NMHU would bang the boards against WNMU, pulling down 42 rebounds as a team. The Cowboys would force 13 turnovers and steal the ball away from the Mustangs nine times throughout the game.
Aaryon Williams led the way for the Cowboys with his second double-double of the season pulling down a career high 16 rebounds and scoring 17 points. Williams added in four assists, two blocked shots and three steals in his 21 minutes played against the Mustangs.
Billy Austin closed out his career as a Cowboy on a positive note, leading the Cowboys in scoring with 18 points on the night. Austin added in four rebounds, two assists, and two steals to his night's totals.
Rounding out the top three performers for the Pokes was
Momcilo Latinovic. Latinovic finished the night with 16 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The Cowboys close out their 2011-12 season tied for ninth place in the latest RMAC standings, which puts them one spot outside of qualifying for the RMAC Shootout. This will be the first time that the Cowboys fail to qualify for the post season tournament while under NMHU Head Coach Joe Harge. We look forward to seeing you in the John A.
