Cowboys Drop Two in Weekend Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The road woes for the NMHU Cowboys continued after dropping two games over their weekend Colorado road swing. The Cowboys fell to Adams State College 86-66 on 2/3 and then would fall to fort Lewis College 87-70 on 2/4. The Cowboys are a formidable opponent when on their home court at 8-1 in the John A. Wilson Complex this season, but have struggled on the road this season posting a 1-8 road record and a 1-2 neutral site record. The Cowboys look to break their seven game road losing streak on 2/10 when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University. The last time the Cowboys and the Mavericks met was on 12/10/11 in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowboys edged out the Mavericks 81-79 on a buzzer beating jumper by Billy Austin.

Against Adams State the Cowboys finished the night shooting 37% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. The Cowboys struggled from the free throw line shooting 53% as a team. Turnovers would be the Cowboys curse for the night as they finished with 21 turnovers for the game. Defensively the Cowboys would force 16 ASC turnovers and steal the ball 11 times. Aaron Shepard led the way for the Pokes against Adams State with 20 points for the night. Shepard would add in one rebound, one assist and two steals to his night's totals. Momcilo Latinovic would be the only other Cowboy in double digits as he finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals for the game.

In the Fort Lewis game, the Cowboys found their groove at the free throw line shooting 74% for the night. The Cowboys finished the night shooting 33% from the field and 44% from three-point land. Turnovers again would spell doom for the Pokes as they had 17 for the game. Defensively the Cowboys forced 13 FLC turnovers and racked up seven steals and four blocked shots on the night. Micah Shepard would be the only Cowboys to score in double figures with13 points for the night. Shepard added in two rebounds, two assists and two steals to his night's totals.

The Cowboys will continue their road warrior ways as they travel to Grand Junction, Colo. on 2/10 to take on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University (11-10; 9-8 RMAC). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. If you can't make the trip to Grand Junction to watch your Cowboys in action, you can always watch them live on the America One Network.
