Box Score 2 In Denton, Texas on Friday night, 8/31, at the 2012 Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic Volleyball Tournament, the Cowgirls corralled the Central Oklahoma Bronchos in a five-game decision and defeated The Lady Tigers of East Central University in four games.
New Mexico Highlands 3, Central Oklahoma 2
In the first match of the 2012 season, the Cowgirls were tested by Central Oklahoma University but had enough fight in them to win in five sets. Competing tough in the first three sets (21-25, 25-19, 21-25), the Cowgirls had their backs to the wall down 2-1 in set play, but with a stellar fourth and fifth game finish (25-15, 15-13) the Cowgirls fought back to win their first match of the season. Directing the offensive attack was
Darian Mullen with 22 kills, 17 digs, and a pair of blocks.
Katie Saavedra led the way defensively for the Cowgirls with a team high 28 digs.
New Mexico Highlands 3, ECU 1
The Cowgirls won an intense first set by a score of 26-24. They dropped the next set (25-17), but finished strong in the following two sets (25-22, 25-20) to put a conclusion on the second match of the season. Leading the Cowgirls was
Darian Mullen with 16 kills and nine digs. Newcomer
Marina Samoa also had an impressive game with 12 kills, 11 digs, and one block.
NMHU Women's Volleyball will continue non-conference action on the second day of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic Volleyball Tournament, on 9/1.
