Box Score The NMHU Cowgirls Soccer team secured their first victory of the season, on 9/1, on the road in Odessa, Texas against the University of Texas – Permian Basin. The Cowgirls took an early 1-0 lead, but the Falcons managed to tie the game up at 1-1. The Cowgirls finished the game off with an offensive flurry, scoring two goals with only 10 minutes left to play. When the final buzzer sounded the Cowgirls were victorious by the final score of 3-1. With the win in San Odessa, the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach
Justin Wagar, improve to a 1-2 overall record this season.
Freshman forward
Kelsie Roberts got the scoring started for the Cowgirls in the 5th minute. Roberts received a pass from
Nadine Netelenbos and shot the ball from 25 yards out. The ball buried in the upper left corner of the goal and Roberts her second goal of the season.
The Cowgirls maintained the 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Falcons found the equalizing goal in the 69th minute. UTPB's Nicole Leffingwell scored from the right side of the six-yard box by shooting the ball across the goal into the left corner to tie the game up 1-1.
It was striker
Marci Johnson who would rescue the victory for the Cowgirls, scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes.
In the 81st minute,
Kelsie Roberts created a break-away on the right side of the pitch and passed the ball to
Marci Johnson in the center of the penalty box. Johnson put the ball in the left side of the goal for her first goal of the season and gave the Cowgirls the 2-1 lead with time running out.
Marci Johnson scored her second goal of the game and the season in the 88th minute.

Crystal Schuder, and
Marci Johnson took advantage of an odd-man break that led to Johnson increasing the Cowgirls' lead to 3-1.
The Cowgirls offense was in full operation against the Falcons. They generated 18 shots compared to only five UTPB attempts.
Marci Johnson led the way for the Cowgirls with two goals and
Kelsie Roberts finished the game with a goal and an assist.
The Cowgirls will be in action again on Friday, 9/7, as the host the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University at Perkins Stadium, in Las Vegas, N.M. Western State is currently 0-3-0 on the season having lost games to Adams State College, Regis University, and Metro State College. Although they are members of the RMAC, the Mountaineers just recently began their Women's Soccer program and as a result they will not participate in RMAC competition until the 2013 season.
