Cowboys Ground Skyhawks 50-0

Box Score The NMHU Cowboys improved to 2-0 on the season after dismantling the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College by a final score of 50-0 on 9/8 in Durango, Colo. The Pokes rode into town looking for their first RMAC win of the season and did it in a big way. The Cowboys 50 point shellacking of the Skyhawks is the largest win by any NMHU football team in recent memory. Emmanuel Lewis led the Pokes in total offense racking up 454 total yards and five touchdowns on the day in his first start of the 2012 season. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 2-0 on the season and more importantly, 1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Pokes will continue their road warrior ways as they hit the road to Cedar City, Utah to take on FCS opponent, Southern Utah University on 9/15.

Offensively, the Cowboys dominated Fort Lewis. The Pokes rolled up 666 total offensive yards on 104 plays (320 yards rushing and 346 yards in the air). Emmanuel Lewis was a dual threat for the Cowboys both with his arm and his legs. Lewis completed 26 of 46 passes for 346 yards and four touchdowns as well as rushed for 137 yards on 14 carries. De'joshua Johnson and Kevon Williams finished the day leading the receiving core. Johnson finished the day with four catches for 46 yards and two scores. Williams caught six passes for 89 yards and one touchdown. Levelle Peterson added to the Pokes rushing attack with 20 carries for 101 yards and one score.

Defensively, the Cowboys wreaked havoc on the Skyhawk offense. The Pokes held Fort Lewis to 166 total yards on the day. NMHU shut down the FLC running game holding them to a mere 38 yards rushing and limited them to 128 yards passing. Jordan Campbell, Abdul Kanneh and EJ Woods led the way for the Pokes defensively. Campbell finished with seven tackles and two tackles for a loss of three yards. Kennah finished with five tackles and one interception with a return of 28 yards. Woods rounds out the top three with five tackles, one tackle for a loss of two yards and one pass break-up.

The Cowboys will hit the road to take on their next opponent. The Cowboys will travel to Cedar City, Utah to take on FCS opponent, Southern Utah University, on 9/15.
