Cowgirls and Grizzlies Tie 3-3 In Overtime

Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. - The NMHU Women's Soccer team tied their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game, on Oct. 11, against the Grizzlies of Adams State University , by the final score of 3-3.  From the start of the first period, the Cowgirls scored first. Their first goal came from a blast by Nicole Millar. The Grizziles had an slight edge in the  shots by the first period category, by out-shot the Cowgirls 11-9. The Grizziles would respond very late in the first perid by tying the game at 1-1. The Grizzlies would add another goal in the early part of the second half. The Cowgirls would quickly respond  by tying the game in the 67th minute from a goal by Crystal Schuder. Five minutes later in the second period, the Grizzlies would take the lead again, (3-2). The Cowgirls would quickly respond by tying the game up for the third time, 3-3, on a goal by Andrea Duke. The Cowgirls played in two extremely difficult overtime periods that resulted in a tie. The Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Justin Wagar, are now 3-3-1 in the RMAC and 5-3-3 in overall play.

Right out of the gates, the Cowgirls jump ahead by scoring in the second minute of the game. Cowgirl Crystal Schuder passed it to Nicole Millar and she blasted a 35-yard goal in the net, giving the Cowgirls the lead (1-0). In a span of three minutes the Cowgirls would shot three more times.  Throughout the first period both team were going back and forth in ball possesion and shots by period category. In the 45th minute, the Grizziles would tie the game up (1-1). 

The Grizzlies returned the favor by getting ahead with another goal in the 58th minute. The Cowgirls would respond nine minutes later in the 68th minute, when Crystal Schuder was on the right side she shot the ball in the net and the Grizzlies' Kristine Hackett deflected the ball in their own net (2-2). The Grizziles would score their third goal in the 72nd minute of the game, giving the Grizzlies the lead (3-2). The Cowgirls were determined to tie the game, in the 74th minute Anyssa Dagnino passed the ball through several Grizzlies' players and it was recieved by Andrea Duke where she crossed right to left, shot an amazing goal by her left foot left side and tied the game at (3-3). Both teams would play hard till the end of the second half, entering overtime period.

Entering the overtime period, both teams were determined to score first for the golden goal rule to win the game. The Cowgirls had opportunties to win the game by out-shooting the Grizzlies 5-0 in the shots by period catergory  in the ten minute overtime period. They couldn't capitalize on each of their opportunites.

In the second overtime period the Cowgirls continued to control the ball possession and shots by period categories. They out-shot the Grizzlies again 5-0 and couldn't secure the win. Both teams ended the game with a tie.  

The Cowgirls will continue conference action at home, on Oct. 13, against the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College.  The Skyhawks are currently ranked 12th in NCAA DII, with a 5-2 conference record and 9-2 in overall play.  If you can't make it out to Perkins Stadium to catch your Cowgirls in action, you can watch the game via live internet stream on the America One Network.
