Alamosa, Colo. - The NMHU Women's Soccer team suffered their fifth defeat in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in a heart-breaking loss to the Grizzlies of Adam State University, by the final score of 1-0. In the first period, the Cowgirls only were able to create three shots compared to the Grizzlies who had a slight advantage with four shots. The Grizzlies scored in the 8th minute of the match, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Cowgirls were determined to score offensively and tie the match. The Grizzlies' defense took the Cowgirls' offensive rhythm away. The Grizzlies out-shot the Cowgirls 4-2 in the second period. The Cowgirls, led by Coach Justin Wagar, drop to 4-5-1 in the RMAC and 6-5-3 in overall play.

From the start of the game both teams were in a fiercely competitive game. Both teams were battling for RMAC seeding for the conference tournament. Entering the match, the Grizzlies were in fifth place and the Cowgirls were in sixth place, the last seed to enter the conference tournament.
The Grizzlies came out of the gates on the offensively attack. In the 8th minute of play, Adams State's Shelby McBain scored her first goal of the season, giving the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Offensively the Cowgirls couldn't respond and weren't able to create opportunities to score goals. Their offensive only created three shots against the Grizzlies' defense.
In the second period, the Cowgirls struggles continued on the offensive side. The Grizzlies defense controlled the Cowgirl offense by only allowing two shots. The Cowgirls played extremely hard in the second period but it wasn't enough to create more scoring opportunities.
The Cowgirls will continue conference action on Oct 25th, against Colorado Mesa University in Las Vegas, N.M. The Mavericks are currently in fifth place in the conference, with a 5-5 RMAC record and 6-8 in overall play.
